Learning Center

Friday ~ Ski for the Health of It Sponsored by Community Bank www.communitybanknet.com

Anthony Lakes Ski Area has created a way to entice more young people to choose skiing for a lifetime of fun and health benefits. The ski area developed a program that takes advantage of the four-day school week adopted by Baker, North Powder, Union, Cove, and John Day and provides an economical and chaperoned activity for Fridays in January and February.  For all schools in the area, Anthony Lakes offers lessons, lift or trail pass, and equipment rental for a total cost of $30 per student per Friday, through the 8-week program.  Students from Baker City or Haines can ride the chaperoned school bus. All students are required to take a weekly lesson, after which they are free to ski the rest of the day. Arriving buses will be met daily by the Ski Patrol to discuss safety issues and remind all participants of the Skier’s Responsibility Code. .
Ski For the Health of It is for 4th through 12th grade students. Younger students can participate if they are accompanied by a parent or adult.
Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort is very excited to work with the entire community to put this great educational program together. Please direct any questions about the program and how to participate to Marketing Director Josie Quillan, 541.856.3277 x12 or jquillan@anthonylakes.com.
2013 Season – Program begins Friday, January 4th for Baker County and is closed for registration.  Bus will pick up at The Little Pig at 8am and return at 5pm.  Students must be registered, paid, and have a waiver filled out to participate in program.

George Roach Scholarship Fund

A snow sports scholarship fund was established in April, when George Roach passed away, to honor and celebrate his spirit, and commitment to young people.  George served as the Learning Center Director at Anthony Lakes for several years.  Thanks to the generosity of dozens of supporters both locally and from across the United States, we are pleased to report that over $8,000 has been raised.

Scholarships have been awarded to students to participate in the Baker County “Ski for the Health of It” program. We are now receiving applications for scholarships from students wishing to participate in ski programs from other School Districts who visit Anthony Lakes.  The scholarship covers equipment rentals (boards, boots, skis poles) and ski or boarding lessons at Anthony Lakes. Transportation is handled through the schools or communities.

If you know, or are, a student who would not be able to participate in a school ski/boarding program without financial support, let us know. We will make sure applications are available through your school.  If you would like to make a donation to the George Roach Scholarship fund, please send your tax-deductible contribution to Anthony Lakes Ski Resort (Baker County Development Corporation). In the memo line note: George’s Scholarship Fund. All donations are tax deductible.   Please send your donation to: 47500 Anthony Lake Hwy, North Powder, OR 97867
